The Lotus flower begins its life growing in the mud and dirt, yet it transcends this state of being in the muddy water and emerges, producing a perfect, beautiful bloom. Buddha and many Hindu Gods are depicted sitting within a Lotus flower; this represents through meditation, how they overcame the pain and suffering of the material world and attained enlightenment. Every person, like the Buddha, has the same potential to become enlightened and thus transcend suffering.
